Excelente 5 /5The Vigna San Giuseppe is not only gorgeous, high-quality and tastefully decorated, it is authentic! It was actually the working farm and vineyard of the hostess, Giuditta's grandparents. The bottom floor originally was a stable and the gorgeous guest house was an animal manger! Now it looks like a spa, but it's nice to know its roots are real.
The house has great views from every patio and the valley next to the house is full of bird noise and lovely farm noises. We even saw a family of wild boars every evening grazing in the field next to the house. There is a hiking trail that starts right at the house through forests and the little town at the top of the hill.
Giuditta, the hostess who spent her childhood there, is adorable and sincere and ready to come over at a moment's notice to help with anything. She knows all kinds of people in the area and one night she and two chefs created the most memorable multi-course meal with specialties from the region, including locally produced wine and wild boar hunted by someone she knows! It was delicious and so special, something we will all remember for a long time.
The house has about 8 bikes of all types and sizes and we loved biking down the dirt road into town and tooling around on the cobble stones in the ancient part of subbiano, picking up groceries etc. Walking it's only about 15-20 minutes into town and by the time you get back up to the villa, you'll be ready to jump into the clean and beautifully refreshing pool!
It's convenient to have a car, but we also got around just fine using buses and trains.
Lots to do in the area, great villages, castles and of course Sienna and Florence all within visiting distance.
